After the unusual break-in-calendar of the 21st Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Charterhouse is thrilled to announce a comeback. Organizers and partners have settled on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Festival Weekend.
Given the peculiarity of this year as a result of COVID-19, some notable events within the festival will not be held. Key amongst them are the Nominees Jam and the Celebrations Jam.
The revised calendar thus begins with the big conversation on who wins what, on the VGMA21 CountDown Series, showing 6pm every Sunday on TV3 and online on Facebook – Charterhouse Ghana. The 30mins show features seasoned industry pundits in category discussions, analysis and predictions. This has already begun.
The 7th edition of the VGMA Unsung follows with a pre-produced concert which will be shown on TV for public voting and participation. This year, six (6) promising acts were selected from over 5000 social media submissions- Imrana, Gyakie, Teflon Flexx, Kofi Jamar, Sherry Boss, and Abochi. These are young, talented, and ambitious musicians who are ready to go all out to win a performance slot on music’s biggest night.
The festival will be climaxed with a two-day awards weekend on 28th and 29th August, for Industry Awards and Public Awards respectively. There will be NO PUBLIC ATTENDANCE and the event will be produced solely for broadcast on TV and Digital platforms. It will feature some of the best performances from chart topping artistes and will be broadcast on TV3, DStv and streamed on social media pages of Ghana Music Awards (Facebook) and Charterhouse Live (YouTube).
Voting remains open for all categories. Fans have the power to determine who wins what in respective categories by voting via SMS to Short Code 1767 on Vodafone only, and free at www.GhanaMusicAwards.com. She will receive this honor along eight other renowned and influential Ghanaian women, including broadcast Journalist Doreen Andoh, actor Grace Omaboe, Theresa Ayoade, the CEO of Charterhouse Ghana (organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards) for their pratical contribution towards the film and media, entrepreneurship and education sectors.
Expressing her profound gratitude to the Women’s Choice Awards for acknowledging works, the afropop musician, privately christened Noella Wiyaala, said she is so elated to be conferred with this prestigious award as a prize or a mark of recognition given to her in honour of her visible achievements in the arts and culture industry as an independent brand.
According to her, she envisioned the admiring brand she wanted to elevate to the world after realising she had become a role model to the teeming but struggling youths who inherited her kind of family background. Regardless of the difficulties encountered on a daily basis, she urged all women in the creative arts, especially the young ones, to use their talent wisely, being diligent, stay focused on being real to thy self and devoid of negative trends.
Wiyaala hails from Funsi in the Upper West Region of Ghana. A two-time VGMA winner and three-time AFRIMA recipient, she began her solo career in 2013 and released her eponymous debut album a year later. Her second album Sissala Goddess was released in 2018. She is also a member of international female band GRRRL.
As an activist, she has partnered with UNICEF Ghana and Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection on campaigns against child marriage, child poverty, health and sanitation.
