The Reason You Should Have The 2020 Model Of Toyota Camry Spider In Your Garage

Published

on

Starting spring 2020, Dynamic Torque Control AWD will be available as a standalone option on the Camry LE, XLE, SE and XSE trims, making this the first time since 1991 AWD has been offered on the mid-size sedan. An efficient 2.5-litre DOHC four-cylinder putting out 202 hp (205 hp with dual exhaust on XSE AWD) is being paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Dynamic Torque Control AWD system is borrowed from the latest-generation RAV4 crossover, and can direct up to 50 per cent of engine torque to the rear wheels, in response to acceleration from a start or slippage at the front wheels. When not needed, the electromagnetic controlled coupling on the front of the rear drive axle disengages the propeller shaft from the differential to prioritize fuel efficiency.

For the front-wheel-drive models, the LE, XLE, SE and XSE are all powered by the same 2.5L engine, while XLE and XSE trims are offered with an optional 3.5L V6 that generates 301 hp. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed direct-shift automatic transmission with sequential shift mode.

For a sportier vibe, S series models include steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, while XLE and XSE trim levels feature a three-setting drive mode select system, with sport, normal and eco modes.

Camry Hybrid models feature Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine mated to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, high-torque electric motor, high-capacity storage battery and sophisticated power management system. This system generates 208 net horsepower and superior fuel efficiency.

The Toyota Camry has gone from a fantastic family sedan to anonymous four-door and now back to its former glory. That’s right. The Toyota is once again a truly desirable option in a segment that’s slumping but still highly competitive. If it weren’t for the 10Best dynasty that is the Honda Accord, the Camry would be even more desirable.

Still, credit its diverse powertrain platter for its mass appeal. There’s a thrifty four-cylinder, an even more frugal hybrid option, and a strong V-6. The best way to experience the latter is with the sport-tuned TRD model, which showcases the Toyota’s rediscovered fun factor. Those who simply prefer a stylish and comfy family sedan, with driver assists and popular features galore, will also adore the 2021 Camry.

Facebook To Open Its Second African Office In Lagos, Nigeria

Published

on

Facebook is set to open its second Africa office in Lagos in the second half of 2021, after it opened its first Africa office in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2015., which will house a cross-section of Facebook teams from sales, policy, and communications to engineering. It is the company’s latest commitment to Nigeria—Africa’s largest internet market, after it opened a hub space in partnership with Co-Creation Hub, a leading Nigerian startup accelerator, in 2018.

It is essentially a major play for talent and proximity to an important, fast-growing market—and it is not happening in isolation: Google and Microsoft have grown their local presence in Nigeria over the past decade. In fact, Microsoft’s moves have included a $100 million commitment to build software development centers on the continent and employ 500 African developers by 2023.

With more Nigerians using Facebook than anywhere else on the continent and the suite of high-ranking executives at Facebook’s global offices being a ringing endorsement, Facebook is moving closer to where the talent is. Nigeria ranked among the fastest growing developer communities in Africa last year.

The global tech giant is in the business of serving and monetizing eyeballs, hence a more hands-on operation in Nigeria, and across Africa, and being closer to the world’s fastest-growing population of young people is a shrewd move. Africa’s population, already the youngest in the world, is expected to triple by 2100 while the rest of the world shrinks. And Nigeria will play a key role in that growth spurt by becoming the second most populous country in the world, ahead of China.
