African Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, has added his voice to the vast majority of Nigerians and other Nationals calling for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Sars) of the Nigeria Police Force. The force has become a national scourge that a witch-hunt machinery against Nigerian youth with dreadlocks, cars, expensive phones.

In the 3 minutes length song produced by paq, Shatta Wale is heard telling Nigerians not to sleep, but rather buckle up to fight for their rights. According to him, he doesn’t want the continent to record any incident of apartheid, xenophibia and or genocide guerrila war. He added that, It is time for African leaders to rise up and deliver due governance to their people.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s government has dissolved an infamous police unit plagued with allegations of extrajudicial killings and abuse after days of protests against police brutality. A wave of outrage had been fuelled over the last week by the emergence online of graphic footage and shared experiences of abuses by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, commonly called Sars.

Given a recurring cycle in Nigeria of public outrage leading to government pledges that are then perceived not to have brought about tangible change, the announcement was greeted by a mixture of euphoria that the authorities had been forced to act and frustration that the measures did not go far enough.
