Major Lazer have premiered that documentary “Chasing The Sound,” which depicts the hit-making trio’s recent tour stops and exploration of culture in Ghana and Nigeria, thus far, collaborating with cutting-edge Afrobeats artists including Mr.Eazi, Efya, Teni, Sarkodie and Amaarae as they explore the culture and history of Africa.

“According to Sarkodie, Ghana made music in Africa huge for the world to recognize. Give it up to Ghana. Ghana definitely when it comes to music in Africa we stepped it up. The invasion to me started from when we realized we should stick together and push together.”

“Because from the beginning, individually we were trying to do it on our own. You see Mr Eazi trying, Shatta Wale trying, but it started making sense when we did it together. When we started doing shows together and selling arenas together.” – He added

Diplo, Ape Drums, and Walshy Fire of Major Lazer dive into the West Africa’s native Afrobeats genre and how the style has flourished into an impactful artistic movement, shaping broader mainstream music worldwide. The documentary highlights the movements of key players, including Mr Eazi, who recently worked with the group on “Oh My Gawd” alongside Nicki Minaj and K4mo.

“It’s an enormous scene there that’s taking over the world,” Diplo comments in the trailer. Walshy Fire goes on to tie the explorative venture back to Major Lazer’s mission statement “to make the world smaller by making the party bigger.”

The documentary was filmed during Major Lazer’s tour stops in Accra, Ghana and Lagos, Nigeria. The directorial effort is being helmed by Austin Peters, who worked with the group on their 2016 documentary Give Me Future. The film explored Cuba’s changing cultural landscape and documented Major Lazer’s free concert held in Havana, which drew a jaw-dropping 500,000 attendees.

The song ‘Maamiyaa’ which is a Dagbani phrase and in English, it is a sentence-filler translated as ‘You know what I mean’ or ‘You know’. The song was written and produced as a result of the singer’s painful heartbreak received from his first girlfriend when he came to the South from the North.

According to him, this painful heartbreak resulted in him becoming a prodigal, in an interview on Starr FM with CookieTee, he recalled that “This girl left me and out of pain I found myself misspending on stuff. After a break up I went drinking and chilling with girls and that where I got the inspiration. I was inspired to write this piece. I vented my pain into this piece, though is a party hip-pop genre and is an inspiration I got out of the pain from her”
