PUMA Partner Wizkid For His “Made In Lagos” Album Merchandise

Published

on

Fashion and music have always gone hand in hand—and now, as artistes step up their merch game like never before, they are sparking entire fashion movements. Artistes like Stonebwoy, Burna Boy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, are releasing apparel lines that are being received with a level enthusiasm usually reserved for an album launch.

In light of this shift, many music artists are reaching their fans in new ways such as opening pop-up stores and selling branded merchandise. The newest music star to join this trend is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun; a Nigerian singer and songwriter known professionally as Wizkid, who in anticipation of his forthcoming studio album ‘Made In Lagos,’ has released the official merch for the project which was has Puma as the official partners.

This marks Wizkid’s second collaboration with a sportswear giant after he collaborated with Nike for his Wizkid FC merch in 2018.

The ‘Made In Lagos’ merch will be a critical compliment to his forthcoming studio project and will allow the consumer to own a physical piece of the experience his music offers. The merchandise will also serve as an expression of the music, the message and the style that ties Wizkid to the consumer. With the decline of physical CD sales, merchandise sales it will offer another avenue to contribute revenue while complimenting the music.

The headline merch looks like a football jersey with ‘Made In Lagos’ at its centre. This seems a part of Wizkid’s Lagos-centred roll-out for his upcoming album, Made In Lagos.

Other designs include a collection of high fashion set of T-shirts in both black and white, a yellow and black hoodie, Bandanas, box and circle stickers. The most notable item on the list is a starboy x puma collaborative white jersey but surprisingly, the jersey is not up for sell. You can cop the merch priced between £2 and £40 here

Fans who are interested in getting the jersey will have to send screenshot proof of their Itunes MIL album pre-order then send the screenshot with their Instagram handle, real name and address to an address listed on the website to stand a chance of winning the jersey.

Wizkid has so dished out two tracks on the project namely, ‘Smile‘ featuring H.E.R., and most recently ‘No Stress.’ Made In Lagos arrives October 15th.

Stonebwoy has, in a recent tweet, reacted to comments made by Shatta Wale – who claimed the CEO of Burniton Music Group has stopped responding to his calls after the Asaase Sound Clash lyrical competition. In an interview with Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu’, the multiple award winner disclosed his relationship with Stonebwoy has not been the same since then.

“After the clash when I call him, he doesn’t pick and I have noticed that in life there are people who like to beef and I like such people a lot”, he said. Stonebwoy knows my contact numbers and he knows the particular number I call him with yet he still doesn’t answer when I call him,” he added

But in a tweet, Stonebwoy stated that, though he is cool with Shatta Wale, it will be a false impression to suggest their friendship has mature to a more “brotherly” level

“I dey hear hear some phone call issues. @shattawalegh you know I’m cool with you..we cant assume that we are like “bread and butter” already. Small small okay bro, the last time I checked you haven’t even replied your WhatsApp Yet”, he said.

On Saturday, September 12, 2020, fans were able to enjoy a “Verzuz-like” battle between reggae and dance-hall greats Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, who decided to switch things up by trading songs from within the same room. Together, the Ghanaian giants were able to perform their biggest classics in front of hundreds of indoor fans and about thousands social media users, all with their cultural flag behind mid-performance.

The morning after the much anticipated dancehall clash, social media users took to twitter to declare Stonebwoy the winner of the clash. Stonebwoy dominated social media trends after the night, with comments from social media users, stakeholders eulogizing him for putting out an outstanding performance. Shatta wale was mocked for leaving the stage just before the freestyle battle session which they claim was a clear indication of throwing in the towel.

37 minutes into the interview, 50 recalled being offered a large amount of money to attend Trump’s inauguration. According to him, the Trump team was reaching out to him—as they did with other artists ahead of the 2020 election—as part of an effort he says was aimed at attracting voters. 50 explained he was initially offered $500,000 to go to the inauguration, though that offer was later bumped up to $1 million.

Lil Wayne

“He was needing it for the same reasons you see now,” 50 said. “He participated with different artists for the Black vote. And I’m going, nah, I ain’t gonna put myself in that position. ‘Cause I don’t know what I’d have to do to recover from that.”

Asked by Charlamagne if Lil Wayne received a payment for his widely trashed Trump endorsement, 50 said he was “sure” he did. “Yeah, I’m sure. … Easily, he got paid,” 50 said.
