Nasty C, Joyous Celebration Are The Most Streamed SA Artistes On Deezer.

Music streaming service Deezer last week revealed the top songs, artists and albums that South Africans listened to on its platform in 2019.

The streaming statistics show Joyous Celebration, Nasty C, Kabza De Small, Prince Kaybee and Sjava as the most streamed artists in South Africa, respectively. Emakhaya by Mlindo the Vocalist tops the list of the most listened-to albums in the country.

Gospel, hip hop and amapiano are the country’s most listened-to genres. One could also conclude that the new sensation, amapiano, has now cemented its position in mainstream SA music.

Black Coffee’s ‘Drive’ featuring David Guetta and Delilah Montagu still remains a favourite track, topping the list of the most listened-to songs. This follows the Collaboration of the Year South African Music Award that the DJ received for the project earlier this year.

The Deezer list also includes the top international acts streamed in South Africa; ‘Without Me’ by Halsey being the most streamed song overall. And Ed Sheeran, Khalid and Drake top the list for the most streamed artists overall.

Deezer has also introduced the #MyDeezerYear feature, viewable here, which allows users to track their own most played artists, songs and podcasts.

“Local music has completely smashed it this year! It’s been a big one for Spanish-speaking music and the world is loving English and Spanish mashup tracks,” Deezer vice-president of artist marketing Nigel Harding said.

“I’m sure that in 2020 other genres like J-Pop and Afrobeat will continue to define pop music tastes around the world. I’ve personally been hooked on podcasts since Serial came about. So, it’s been great to see how they’re taking over of the world, especially in comedy and crime.”
