Zimbabwean Comedian, Munya Chawawa, Signs A Record Deal With Atlantic Records – UK
Zimbabwean-born UK-based comedian, Munya Chawawa, has signed a remunerative deal with Atlantic Records – UK. “I’ve signed to Atlantic Records! Two years of sketches, one Fire in the Booth and a few middle class bars later and here we are! Thank you for supporting my parodies & sharing my sketches, I’m so grateful and deffo cracking open a Shloer tonight. @AtlanticRcrdsUK”, according to his announcement video post on Twitter.
A master of comedy with puns that will have you in stitches, Munya Chawawa has become one of the most promising young comedians to come from the social space. Chawawa developed a plethora of nuanced personalities consumers love to watch. From the infamous newsreader, Barty Crease to the UK’s first posh drill rapper – Unknown P and chef Jamie Oliver’s ‘Caribbean cousin’ Johnny Oliver, his satirical and self-produced videos have led to an impressive roster of characters and many viral moments.
Unknown P is the UK’s first posh drill rapper who clearly lives in his own world. Chawawa uses satire to highlight Britain’s subtle racism, for example, the British media’s watered down reportage of Black Lives Matter, the coronavirus pandemic, classism and other domestic issues. The 27-year-old’s sketches gained even more popularity during the global coronavirus lockdown when comedic relief was certainly a reprieve for many.
By signing with Atlantic he becomes label-mates with the likes of Stormzy, Burna Boy, Cardi B, Lizzo and Ed Sheeran
