The France and Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé has tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss the Nations League match against Croatia, the French football federation has announced.
“Kylian Mbappe will not play in France v Croatia [on] Tuesday evening at the Stade de France,” an FFF statement said. “His Covid-19 test carried out by Uefa on Monday morning revealed a positive result. He was isolated from the squad after receiving the results at the end of training, and returned home in the evening.”
The statement added that Mbappé had provided negative tests before joining the squad, and before Saturday’s Nations League game against Sweden, where he scored the winning goal.
Mbappé is thought to be the seventh PSG player to test positive for Covid-19, with the other cases picked up by the club’s pre-season testing. The Ligue 1 champions begin their title defence on Thursday at Lens – a match in which Mbappé will now not be available to play.
The Manchester City players Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez have also tested positive for coronavirus. Both men are self-isolating as City prepare for their opening game of the new Premier League season against Wolves.
Laporte, who is Pep Guardiola’s defensive linchpin, and the forward Mahrez could be available as the trip to Molineux is on 21 September, in a fortnight’s time – the maximum period for quarantine, according to government rules. It is unclear when each player began quarantine, and thus when they can resume training with Guardiola’s squad.
A club statement on Monday said: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for Covid-19. Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus. Everyone at the club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a speedy recovery ahead of their return to training and the new season.”
Asamoah Gyan Set To Join Legon Cities
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has been linked to Accra Base Football Club, Legon Cities.
The 34-year-old became a free agent after terminating his contract with Indian Super League side NorthEast United.
The former Sunderland hitman popped up on the radar of Legon Cities – who have cash to spend to bring the lethal striker to the capital-based club.
Legon Cities, who were the least scoring team in the Ghana Premier League before the season was cancelled because of COVID-19, are looking for an emergency cover and Gyan fits the bill, according to reports in the West African nation.
Cities are lining up an overwhelming amount to bring Ghana’s leading top scorer to the club.
Gyan has consistently claimed he will end his career at Ghanaian giants are uKotoko but dream appears to be fizzling out as he aims to cash in at the twilight of his glittering career.
The potential arrival of Gyan could boost the commercial value of the Ghana Premier League due to his remarkable success in world football.
BREAKING NEWS: Liverpool And Manchester United In £4.6billion Talks To Quit EPL
Just a week after it was revealed they were the driving forces behind Project Big Picture, Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly in talks to set up a European Premier League.
The league, estimated to be worth £4.6billion, has been revealed by Sky News in another bombshell power-play by England’s two biggest sides to re-shape the face of the game.
Project Big Picture was dismissed out of hand with clubs concerned at the level of power clubs such as Liverpool and United would assume under the restructure.
This new groundbreaking proposal would see more than a dozen teams across England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain become founding members of the new competition.
There is a provisional date of 2022 for the European Premier League to get underway and as many as five English teams could be involved in it.
Governing body FIFA have reportedly been involved in the talks over the European Premier League.
Wall Street giant JP Morgan is reportedly in talks to provide $6bn (£4.6bn) in debt financing to help get the European Premier League off the ground.
It is anticipated that future broadcast income generated by the league would work as a repayment.
Should the league get the green light, it would immediately become one of the most lucrative divisions in world football.
Former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher aired his annoyance after news of the proposed league broke.
He tweeted: ‘Oh f*** off’ in response to the story about Liverpool and Manchester United’s leading role in talks.
His Sky colleague Gary Neville was also quick to give his thoughts, questioning whether there needs to be an independent regulator to stop situations like this occurring time and time again.
The 18-team competition is expected to involve fixtures played during the normal European club season.
A typical league format would follow before the top-performing teams would enter a knockout competition to crown a champion.
The report goes on to add that prize money for the winning side is expected to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds every single year.
Teams would be paid ‘lucrative sums’ to join the competition. Manchester United and Real Madrid are reported to be in line for the largest welcome fee.
The growing concern for European governing body UEFA is that any European Premier League would all-but replace the pre-existing Champions League. It is unclear if UEFA support the proposals at this stage.
Opposition from UEFA would likely leave their fractious relationship with FIFA in danger of complete collapse with the two governing bodies then at odds over their flagship club competition.
While there has been no official confirmation of the bold plan, it is expected that it could arrive before the end of the month.
Key Capital Partners, a Spanish finance company, are said to have played a key role in talks so far.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who has long advocated for a Super League format for Europe’s elite, is another figure credited with a significant role in the latest proposals.
Sky’s report details that the latest version of the hotly-debated Super League for clubs like Real Madrid has been drafted over the last 12 months.
Current Champions League winners Bayern Munich denied their potential involvement when quizzed by Sky.
Along with Liverpool and Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham are seen as other potential candidates for the European Premier League.
But if the original report is correct, one of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ would miss out as part of the restructure.
It currently remains unclear exactly how the league would play out but it is reported that it would not take the form of a breakaway and clubs would still compete in their traditional domestic leagues.
News of the European Premier League comes soon after Project Big Picture dominated conversation in the English game.
Under that proposal, a bailout would have been provided to the English Football League [EFL] but, in turn, more power would be handed to the ‘Big Six’.
Those plans also looked to reduce the Premier League to an 18-team competition, with only two sides automatically relegated each season.
The League Cup and Community Shield were to be scrapped under Liverpool and United’s plans for an overhaul of the English game.
Plans were quickly dismissed by the Premier League as well as the UK Government amid a period where clubs in the top flight have warned they are losing as much as £100m a month without supporters in stadiums.
Earlier this month the EFL rejected a bail-out offering of £50m from the Premier League to aid teams in League One and League Two.

Jordan Ayew Tests Positive For Coronav!rus
The 29-year-old striker missed the Eagles’ draw against Brighton on Sunday due to the health update
Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew has contracted coronavirus and he has gone into self-isolation to treat himself.
The Ghana international revealed his health status on Sunday after missing Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion at Selhurst Park.
Ayew recently returned to south London after going on international duty with the Black Stars in Turkey where he played in their international friendly fixtures against Qatar and Mali.
He has been a regular player in Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace set-up since the start of the season with four appearances in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old disclosed he is asymptomatic to Covid-19 but he has commenced the self-isolation at home.
“Sadly, I have tested positive for Covid-19 and have begun my quarantine in line with the health guidance,” Ayew tweeted.
“Thankfully, I am feeling fine and I do not have any symptoms. I will be cheering the boys on from home and look forward to being back on the pitch soon.”
After Wilfried Zaha’s strike earned them a point against Brighton, Crystal Palace took time to wish their frontman a speedy recovery on the sidelines.
However, Hodgson suspects he contracted Covid-19 in the Ghana camp and he does not know when Ayew will return to action.
“Unfortunately he tested positive for Covid in our last test on Friday,” Hodgson said, per Evening Standard.
“He’s been away with Ghana, which we weren’t exactly delighted to accept that he had to do. Like several other Ghanaian players, I believe when they have gone back to their clubs they have tested positive.
“Now we have to follow the relative government and Premier League guidelines before we see him again.
“I don’t know [when we’ll have him back]. Don’t ask me to stand here and explain all of the Premier League government guidelines when it comes to Covid.”
