Gov’t Announces An Estimated US$ 1M Relief Fund For Creatives

NAIROBI – Wednesday, May 13, 2020/www.gbafrica.net/ – Following an executive order issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 6 April and as part of its three-month “Together at Home” campaign, the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage – Kenya has, on Monday, May 11, 2020, launched a 100 million Kenyan shilling ($940 000) stimulus package provided by the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund to support an estimated 20, 000 creatives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the cabinet secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage, Amina Mohamed, artists, actors and musicians would be imbursed for the production of projects that is centred on creating awareness, sensitisation and providing educational content relating to the global pandemic, adding that, the produced content would be disbursed via various online platforms such as Kulture TV and other media outlets, including a mobile phone application to reach a widespread of less and well endowed. She made this revelation during a media encounter at at the Kenya Cultural Centre.

The cabinet secretary revealed that, the 100 million Kenyan shillings provision to the creatives is to aid the arts and culture practitioners, educate, innovate, sustain and improve their projects, as the “Together at Home” campaign will use entertainment to centralise three crucial aspects of our society, thus, the importance of new avenues for work, creative community education and sustained mental well-being for all Kenyans during this period.

Though the campaign will be spearheaded by several government agencies and departments, which are expected to release the criteria for engaging the creatives later this week, the Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC) will implement the campaign in the music sector by engaging musicians and dancers.

Wife Of Ghanaian Street Dancer, Jeffery Frimpong, Dies Along With Her Unborn Son

Pregnant YouTube star Nicole Thea has died along with her unborn son Reign in unknown circumstances.

A statement to the dancer’s Instagram account this morning broke the news that Miss Thea, 24, who was eight months pregnant with her son, had passed away on Saturday morning.

The statement read: ‘To all Nicole’s friends and supporters it is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Nicole and her son she and Boga named Reign sadly passed away on Saturday morning.’ 

The street dancer turned influencer, who lived in London with her partner, was nearing her due date and had been sharing her pregnancy journey with her 123k Instagram followers and her YouTube channel.

Her partner, street dancer Global Boga, 20, whose real name is Jeffery Frimpong, posted a video of himself dancing with a pram early on Saturday and had shared in a post the week before that he believed his son was arriving ‘on a Monday’.  

Miss Thea’s cause of death is not yet known. She had previously stated in a video that she was having a ‘good pregnancy’.

The statement posted to her Instagram page also added that her partner Boga had made the decision to publish pre-recorded Youtube videos she had filmed for her channel.

It read: ‘Nicole pre-scheduled a few YouTube videos and Boga has made the decision to allow them to be aired.

‘As a family we ask that you give us privacy because our hearts are truly broken and we are struggling to cope with what has happened.’

‘Thank you her mum RIP My beautiful baby girl Nicnac and my grandson Reign, I will miss you for the rest of my life until we meet again in eternal heaven. Xxx’

A video on July 8 showed Miss Thea’s boyfriend and brothers rating her maternity outfits.

Miss Thea had 73,300 followers on Youtube with videos about her life, pregnancy and boyfriend.

In a recent video the star said that she had been having ‘a good pregnancy’ and spoke about how her partner Boga had stayed ‘so calm’ throughout her morning sickness.

She added: ‘The worst thing about my pregnancy is i’m so out of breath 24/7.

‘I could walk from here to the end of the room and I feel like i’m dying. I went to my midwife and I was like oh my god is this normal? She was like “yeah you’re carrying a child”‘. 

The pair announced the pregnancy in April with an Instagram post captioned: ‘We can’t hide this any longer, secrets out.. GOD gave us the biggest blessing yet. I’m finally creating a beautiful little human inside of me.

‘Can’t believe this bubba will be half of me and half of the loml. Honestly, has been the best support EVER and GOD made no mistakes making him the father.

‘We are already obsessed with you our little miracle baby. Thank you for choosing us to be your parents and best friends.’

Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman, No Cry’ Gets New Music Video In Honor Of International Reggae Day

A new music video for Bob Marley’s classic song “No Woman, No Cry” was released Wednesday in honor of International Reggae Day. Directed by Kristian Mercado Figueroa, the seven-minute visual depicts a family divided by country, with a mother struggling to raise her children on her own in Jamaica and a father working tirelessly as a taxi driver in New York in order to provide for his family back home. It’s a stirring depiction of how poverty also forces loved ones apart in order to make ends meet.

In addition to the video, the Bob Marley estate also recently released a 6-track EP, Why Should I | Exodus, featuring remixes, dub versions, and a 12″ extended version of the title track. The EP is available on streaming now.

On July 24th, the 1984 compilation album Legend will be re-released as a limited-edition picture disc, presenting the LP’s original front cover with a previously unseen image of Marley. The album features some of Marley’s most recognizable songs, including “One Love/People Get Ready,” “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Is This Love,” “Jammin’,” “Could You Be Loved” and “Three Little Birds.”

Earlier, Marley’s 1977 Live at the Rainbow concert was streamed in full on the reggae legend’s official YouTube channel.
