Ghana DJ Awards To Honor “COV!D-19 Lockdown DJs”

Published

on

The board of the prestigious Ghana DJ Awards, the biggest DJ event in Africa produced by Merqury Republic, have introduced an all new special category to award DJs who exceptionally entertained music fans during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

With the lockdown being eased gradually, life is going back to being normal. However, the immense contribution made to the entertainment industry and millions of homes by DJs during the dire lockdown period through social media will not be overlooked by the Ghana DJ Awards, hence the introduction of a special award by the board known as ‘THE LOCKDOWN DJ AWARD’.

Ghana DJ Awards recognizes DJs and musicians across over 20 categories. Mechanics for selection of nominees for the Lockdown DJ Award will be situated on shortlisting of entries received by the awards board based on engagement with social media users.

The nominations are selected by Ghana DJ Awards’ board, voting academy which is comprised of fans and an esteemed group of entertainment professionals in the fields of television, music, social media, digital marketing, journalism, public relations, and the creative arts.

Fans will be able to cast their vote for their favourite DJs via text, on ghanadjawards.org and on both Twitter and Instagram @ghanadjawards designated hashtag.

Women’s Choice Awards Africa To Honor Wiyaala With The “Woman of the Decade” Award

Published

on

Organised by the Global Ovations, Women’s Choice Awards Africa – an initiative that recognises the efforts of women in their various fields and also advocate for women’s rights will, in october 2020, honor Ghanaian Afropop singer-songwriter Wiyaala with the Woman of the Decade Award for her impact she has had in her chosen endeavor.

She will receive this honor along eight other renowned and influential Ghanaian women, including broadcast Journalist Doreen Andoh, actor Grace Omaboe, Theresa Ayoade, the CEO of Charterhouse Ghana (organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards) for their pratical contribution towards the film and media, entrepreneurship and education sectors.

Expressing her profound gratitude to the Women’s Choice Awards for acknowledging works, the afropop musician, privately christened Noella Wiyaala, said she is so elated to be conferred with this prestigious award as a prize or a mark of recognition given to her in honour of her visible achievements in the arts and culture industry as an independent brand.

According to her, she envisioned the admiring brand she wanted to elevate to the world after realising she had become a role model to the teeming but struggling youths who inherited her kind of family background. Regardless of the difficulties encountered on a daily basis, she urged all women in the creative arts, especially the young ones, to use their talent wisely, being diligent, stay focused on being real to thy self and devoid of negative trends.

Wiyaala hails from Funsi in the Upper West Region of Ghana. A two-time VGMA winner and three-time AFRIMA recipient, she began her solo career in 2013 and released her eponymous debut album a year later. Her second album Sissala Goddess was released in 2018. She is also a member of international female band GRRRL.

As an activist, she has partnered with UNICEF Ghana and Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection on campaigns against child marriage, child poverty, health and sanitation. Last month, she was named as a jury member of the Song Contest Against Child Labour, an initiative led by the European Union and the Ghana Employment and Social Protection programme.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Choice Awards Africa are still accepting public nominations for a number of categories, including Journalist of the Year, Most Promising Corporate Lady of the Year, Woman CEO of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and Discovery of the Year. Musicians up for awards at this year’s event are singers eShun and Sefa.

Stonebwoy Receives Grammy Certificate For Featuring On Morgan Heritage’s Nominated Album “Avrakedabra”

Published

on

American learned academy of musicians, producers, recording engineers, and other musical professionals famous for its Grammy Awards which recognize achievements in the music industry; Recording Academy, have presented certificate of participation to Livingstone Etse Satekla – a Ghanaian born Nickelodeon & BET | 3-time Reggae/Ragga & Dance-hall award winning artiste who performs under the name, Stonebwoy.

This certification from the Recording academy is in recognition of his monumental participation and contribution as a featured performing talent on the Grammy award-nominated recording “Avrakedabra” by Morgan Heritage – a Grammy-nominated Jamaican reggae band formed in 1994 by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan.

Stonebwoy becomes the only Ghanaian artiste of his kind to receive such an honor from the most prestigious awards scheme in the world. He is also a recipient of two billboard plaques.

Following the Grammy-winning success of_ Strictly Roots_, Morgan Heritage returned with Avrakedabra, and another melodically bright collection of contemporary reggae. The Morgan siblings invited a lot of guests to the fold, leading off the 14-song album with Mr. Talkbox (Bruno Mars) accenting the vocals of Peetah and Gramps on the one-drop, horn-driven “Want Some More.” while DreZion spiced up the evening on the ‘80s throwback keyboard tones of the danceable “Reggae Nights” featuring Stonebwoy.

Earlier, he was spotlighted as an African winner and nominee of both the BET Awards and Grammy Awards respectively, thus far, both international awards organization and media house, Grammy and BET International, acknowledged Ghanaian born reggae/ragga & dance-hall artiste in the Grammy Museum for his contribution to Sound of Africa exhibit, which showcases and celebrates the unique diversity of African music.
