It was a night of good music as Afro-Pop musician Adina Thembi held her 2-hour album listening session at the Ibis Styles Hotel at Airport City in Accra, an event which amassed a host of Ghanaian media specialists, bloggers, entertainment critics, including President of the Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey, Andy Dosty, Merqury Quaye, Jerry Justice all from Multimedia, Mr Logic, Kwame B, Radio Legend George Brun, CEO of Max International Larry Lowe, and a host of others.
Hosted by award-winning Ghanaian Journalist, Doreen Avio, the event saw an exclusive and topnotch performance of “WHY” – a love reggae song which was released few weeks ago off the yet to be premiere album. The award-winning artiste also took the audience through the songs on the album explaining her songwriting processes, studio sessions and more. She also spoke on the creativity poured to make “Araba”, where she revealed that the album was about her life and journey as an artiste.
“It was a beautiful experience for me. Richie and I go way back so we have that rapport and everyone else on the project is family as well, so, it wasn’t hectic at all,” she said.
The “Makoma” hitmaker described her maiden album as a beautiful blend of emotions and melodies, easy on the ears and a body of work for everyone.
“You know that sort of package that everyone can walk away with their bit, I can’t wait for everyone to hear it and I pray it travels far and wide” she said.
Adina also got emotional telling Doreen about her childhood days revealing how her mum worked hard to take care of her and other siblings all by herself. The singer stated that she put that experience into a song called “Nyedzin” which is featured on the album. Teary Adina encouraged everyone to stay strong no matter how tough things get adding things will get better.
“I was saying to my manager that I feel like this song to anybody that is going through anything is a testament. I am a testament that, no matter how tough it gets you can actually come out of that crazy situation it is.”
“I mean look at me now, I’m not doing so bad for myself and I’m doing pretty well, looking at all that crazy stories and we here today,” she said.
The 10 track album was produced by Richie Mensah of Lynx Entertainment with KiDi the label’s signee being the only artiste featured on the album. “Araba” is set to be released on the October 30, 2020.
YouTube Celebrates African Creators And StoryTellers
The first-ever African Creators and Creativity celebration was recently held virtually in Nigeria by YouTube Africa to engage, educate, and inspire African creators to grow on their platform. Through knowledge and building sessions from YouTube experts, upcoming creators were supposed to learn from the best from Africa in order to impact others and put a spotlight on the African content.
Selected creators across Africa were given the chance to talk about the rich culture from the continent and what their channel was all about. Common misconceptions about Africa was addressed and how the narrative can be changed by creators using YouTube.
Creators whose channels have crossed a 100,000 milestone subscribers received Play Button awards and this was to push other creators to also achieve same.
“We will continue to support African creatives. We will continue to use our platform to inform, educate and inspire. We know it has been a tough year with the pandemic and all but YouTube is here for the creatives” Cecil Frot- Contaz, Head of YouTube EMEA in her submission said.
Creators from Africa selected for the event included Ghana’s own Ameyaw Debrah, MarkAngel and Lily Pope from Nigeria, Sharon Mundia from Kenya, amongst others.
Fireboy DML, Sho Madjozi, Niniola, Reekado Banks, and Sauti Sol overwhelmed virtual audience with their live band performances. Ikorodu Boys also did not disappoint with their dope dance performance.

Super Opong Stars To Headline Virtual Peace Concert On Saturday 5th December
The Spanish Embassy in Accra and Casa Africa; Spain’s public cultural organization invites Kyekyeku and his Super Opong stars, One of Ghana’s true to type and prototypical Highlife collectives to stage a peace concert as Ghana prepares to vote.
The concert which goes virtual with invited guests welcomes Ghana’s Legendary Funk and Simigwa Highlife king Ambolley. FRA, the afro fusion band that last year did a tour of Spain’s biggest music festivals have also been invited. To complete the lineup will be Evergreen Brass; lining up with Ayesem, one of Ghana’s fast rising acts.
Ghana and Spain relations will be further strengthened this December through this collaborative peace concert that aims at buttressing the democratic values which the country enjoys since the beginning of the 4th republic.
Streaming of the concert will be free on the pages of Casa Africa and Super Opong Stars on the 5th December at 8pm with a message from all the lineup to promote inter political dialogue and invite the various political parties and the followers to exercise their franchise within a peaceful, calm and violent free manner in the build up to and after the elections slated for 7th December in Ghana.
South African Comedian Trevor Noah To Host 2021 GRAMMYs
The Recording Academy has announced “The Daily Show” host and GRAMMY-nominated comedian Trevor Noah as host of the 63rd GRAMMY Awards on Jan. 31. This will be the first time Noah will host Music’s Biggest Night.
“Despite the fact that I am extremely disappointed that the GRAMMYs have refused to have me sing or be nominated for Best Pop Album, I am thrilled to be hosting this auspicious event,” Noah said in a statement. “I think as a one-time GRAMMY nominee, I am the best person to provide a shoulder to all the amazing artists who do not win on the night because I too know the pain of not winning the award! (This is a metaphorical shoulder, I’m not trying to catch Corona). See you at the 63rd GRAMMYs!”
