Disk Jockeys Equipped With Industry Insight And Work Ethics At Ghana DJ Clinic
Presented by Ghana DJ awards, the free Ghana DJ Clinic was great for Disc Jockeys, Music Producers, Sound Engineers, and those interested in the creative arts business who wanted to cram as much learning as possible into a single day. Hosted on November 20, 2020 at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, the seminar and workshop gave participants an overview of essential DJ skills including drop mixing, beat-matching and back-to-back mixing and brand positioning.
Sessions were facilated by professional DJs and other resource personalities, including Reverend Azigiza Junior, Rab Bakari, Mark Okraku Mantey, DJ Vyrusky, Kobby Nkrumah, Alexander Luterodt, Eric Tsiri, Frank Owusu, DJ Que, DJ Mpesempese, Hubert Kofi Anti, Frank Kwakye, etc.
Without being worried about getting lost in the technicality of the whole lessons – the workshop was suitable for even absolute beginners. For them, the first stage was to demystify the equipment and how to gain a rudimentary understanding of how the turntables and mixer work and how to put them to good use. More experienced participants enjoyed the chance to learn new skills, use professional equipment and to find out more about DJ-ing in Ghana.
Other significant topics discussed included, The brand talk: How to stand out as a DJ by marketing yourself, Social Listening: How to Identify Potential Clients on Social Media and how to attract sponsorship, Your social media page: The dos and don’ts, Building your confidence as a DJ (Using microphone at events) and How to network, After the big gigs: Life and finances after active DJing, The basics of scratching. Understanding the transition in technologies driving the Disc Jockeying Business, How to create remixes or make music etc.
At the end of the workshop, the instructors also offered great tips on the best nightlife and the country’s vibrant music scene and music venues.

I think Merqury should do this often… it should happen every year as part of his great line up of annual event”, The Chairman of the Ghana Creative Arts Council and Programme’s Manager of Multimedia’s Hitz FM Mark Okraku Mantey lauded Merqury Quaye on live radio – Hitz 103.9 FM for putting up this great initiative.
The Ghana DJ Clinic served as a build up to the 8th edition of the Ghana DJ Awards. Annually celebrated as the biggest night in African DJ culture, the award show was hosted by Andy Dosty at the Silver Tower in Accra. Entertainment’s biggest names showed up and showed out delivering jaw-dropping sets from the likes of Shatta Wale, Kuami Eugene, DJ Snacky, DJ Wobete, and Bosom Pyong.

Music Business Masterclass Equips Ghanaian Creatives On Finding Innovative Ways To Market Music To The World
Under auspices of Ghana Tourism Authority and Beyond The Return Secretariate in conjuction with the Creative Arts Council and TheBridgeZone, the second edition of ‘The Return Conversations’ was organized on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the Accra Tourist & Information Centre, Accra, with ‘The Business of Music: Finding Innovative Ways to Market Ghanaian Music to the Rest of the World’ as the theme.
The program was broadcast worldwide on the social media channels for ‘Beyond the Return’, Ghana Tourism Authority and locally on Hitz FM 103.9 and Y FM 107.9 and was moderated by Frank Owusu (Head of Operations, Creative Arts Council)
With experts panelists, including Glyn Aikins (Sony Music President), Coriya Burns (Senior Integrated Media Specialist, Radio One), Dontae Winslow (Music Producer, Composer, Trumpeter, Educator), Malcolm Xavier (Award-winning DJ), Vasti Jackson (Composer, Guitarist, Producer) and Mark Okraku-Mantey (President Creative Arts Council Ghana) who engaged in conversation with Ghana’s music and creative industry, the seminar focused on how talents can use available channels to distribute and monetize their music sales.
Krymi, Amerado Burner, Nanky, Kobby Salm and other talents who availed themselves at the seminar were provided with a comprehensive understanding of key aspects of the business, including but not limited to: Record Labels, Digital Streaming, Artists & Repertoire, Startups in Music, New-Industry Media, Artist Management, The Live Experience, D.I.Y for Creatives, marketing, contracts and contract law, new business models.
The event is part of the ‘Return Conversations’ which is a pivotal aspect of the ‘Beyond The Return’ project to reduce the differences that separate the global African diaspora and Ghanaians in the music industry.

Video Director Prince Dovlo, Babs Direction, Nana Asihene, Yaw Skyface, Others Attend ‘The Creative Space’ Program
One of the essential and demanded meetings for young and renowned creatives in Ghana ‘The Creative Space’ program has been held successfully in Accra.
BaseCamp Initiative – a green hub tailored for work and leisure who’s sole purpose is to provide a platform for creative expression, collaboration and leisure together with Connect 101 Agency on Sunday, November 8 held a session dubbed ‘The Creative Space’ for creatives in Ghana.
Representative of Connect 101 Agency who doubles as a film producer and director, J Willz, video director Nana Asihene, colorist Tytanium, popular music video director Yaw Skyface, Prince Dovlo, Omar El Imade, Director Abass, Director RQA, Babs Direction, Andy Madjitey and film producer Scilla Owusu were some of the speakers who adorned the program.
The well disposed gathering saw a lot of industry players particularly in the music video production sector attending – including film directors, editors, colorists, photographers, singers, filmmakers, DOPs, costume designers, music distributors, script writers, among others.
According to the organizers, the program was designed to bring out creatives in Ghana together with the sole aim of connecting and sharing ideas.
