“The torture, the beating took place in the police vehicle where I was detained for close to three hours,” Wine said.

“They sprayed me with tear gas … hot metal was placed in my hands, I have scars all over, my whole body hurts.”

The presidential hopeful, who has amassed a popular youth following, nonetheless promised he would “not abandon” his quest to unseat one of Africa’s longest-serving rulers.

National Unity Party secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya told AFP that when Wine was taken home, “police, supported by the army, fired tear gas to disperse supporters”. The army and police then took over the residence and closed the road leading to it, Rubongoya said.

Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has been handed over by the Kaneshie Magistrate Court to the Criminal Investigations Department of the police for questioning over failing to cooperate with police.

This stems from his remarks of inciting candidate John Mahama to declare himself President and proceeding to form a parallel government after the 2020 Presidential election went out of his party’s favour.

On Monday, state prosecutor, Richard Amoah told the Kaneshie magistrate court that the criminal summons was for his refusal to cooperate with the police after several attempts to honour their invite had fell flat.

He upholded that his charge is for “offensive conduct” stemming from his remarks which to them is earmarked at “breaching the peace of the state”.

In a move to shoot down claims that his client had contempted the court, lawyer for Mr.Fuseini, Mr. Edudzi Tamakloe argued in court that his client’s refusal to honour the invitation was for not knowing what his client’s offense was.

He furthered saying that he wrote a letter to the police to inquire of his client’s offense and until now the letter is yet to be replied.

But contrastingly, Mr.Fuseni who played guest on Multimedia’s award-winning TV program,Newsfile over the weekend, had this to say concerning his court summons: “I am prepared…….”.

Judge Ama Adomako-Kwakye after listening to both arguments has ruled that the former legislator to succumb himself to the police for further investigations.

Together with his lawyer, they are at the headquarters of the CID for questioning, Joy News’ Kwesi Parker Wilson reports.
